I was pastoring Victory Baptist Church in Beaufort, SC, when the Lord called us to be missionaries to the Philippines. This occurred during our missions conference in 1992 when Dr. Midgett and Jim Shaw were speakers. At that time, Jim was a missionary in Angeles City, Philippines. After two years deputation, we arrived in the Philippines in November, 1994. I became the pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Angeles in 1995. We resurrected the Bible institute there and started another Bible institute in 1996 near Manila. Over the past three years we have had 20 graduate from this new institute, with several of the graduates starting new churches. In 1995 we had a typhoon hit us that caused 24 foot mud flows of volcanic ash from Mt. Pinatubo, the volcano that had erupted in 1991. Hundreds of thousands of Filipinos were displaced from their homes, and new resettlement areas were built to house them. The Lord led us to a temporary resettlement area near our church, and then opened the door for us to minister in several of these resettlement areas. The Lord has allowed us to see churches started in five of these resettlement areas, and we are working in a sixth one now. The Lord has also called men to preach from five of these outreach churches that are now studying for the ministry in our Bible institute. We praise for the Lord for what He is doing here and the part that He has allowed us to play in training these nationals and in planting churches. The fields are still white unto harvest, and we ask that you continue to pray that the Lord raise up laborers for the field here. Our church also has a Christian school that has grown from fifty to over one hundred seventy. Several of our recent graduates are now working with us in our Christian school and preparing to serve the Lord with their lives. The Lord has graciously provided literature and other materials for us to use in the ministry here. Five million tracts have been given to us for our use and for us to give to other churches to help in their ministries. The Lord has also provided thousands of New Testaments, gospels of John and the book of Romans, and correspondence lessons. Lynn stays busy with the music program of our church and school. We we thankful for the opportunity of serving the Lord here in the Philippines and for the churches and individuals whom the Lord has used to support us in this ministry.
