June, 2007

Dear Friends,

John 1:14—"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." What a blessing it is to behold the Lord's glory as He answers prayers and changes people's lives! The Sunday night after youth camp, the young people got up and gave testimony for two and a half hours about what the Lord had done in their lives at camp. It was a time of tears and rejoicing. Since then, our youth meeting has increased to an average attendance of 45+ on Saturday afternoons, and over twenty of our young people are coming out on Saturday mornings to help with children's Bible clubs. Praise the Lord! We also have several of our young people that are planning on being baptized in July.

School started on June 4, and our enrollment increased from 283 last year to 313 this year. We are endeavoring to reach as many of our school parents with the gospel as possible. So far in this first month of school, at least four of our school parents have made a profession of faith. Three of these have also attended church. Please pray with us as we continue to visit the parents and witness to them. We have been able to take one of our school teachers and make her part time in the church for visitation. She and a couple of the other ladies have been visiting parents twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We have had quite a few first time visitors in church this month and attendance has increased in all three weekly services and in Sunday School. We have had a Bible study for two weeks now at the home of a family that has been visiting the church. They have several boarders, and five of the boarders made a profession of faith at the Bible study. Four of them have also attended church.

Bible Institute classes started on June 18. I am teaching two classes this semester—Poetic Books and Denominational Doctrines. I have twenty-five students in both classes. We have students from at least four churches this semester. Our Institute extension on the other side of Manila in Cavite has twelve students this semester. They have more students wanting to attend from other areas of the Philippines, but they do not have the space to board them. Please pray that the Lord would provide for the boarding of these people who would like to come and study for full-time Christian service.

Of course, Satan has not taken all of this sitting down. We had one of our school teachers quit without warning two weeks before school started. Another one has also given indication that she may not continue teaching. However, we thank the Lord for providing the workers we need. We know that He is in control and will take care of His work. We have our eye on a new resettlement area that is in the process of being built (Cutud) and would like to go into this area to try and start a church when the people are settled there. A couple of families from our church will be resettled there; so we will have some contacts to start with. We thank you for your prayers. We know from what the Lord is doing that people are praying for the ministry here.

In His Service,

Tom and Lynn Ashley
