November - December, 2006 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
When a person has been raised in the Mormon Church all their lives
it is very difficult for them to leave it. Often times they feel
like they are betraying their families and know that most likely
their families will shun and ostracize anyone who leaves the
Church. Such is the case for a man named Wilford that I have had
the privilege of witnessing to twice a week for the last six
months. At this point in time Wilford is convicted of his sin and
knows that he needs to ask Jesus to save his soul but is afraid of
his wife and children leaving him. This man is so sick in his soul
and convicted about salvation that he cannot sleep or think about
anything else. Two weeks ago he overdosed on a bottle of pain
pills trying to end his life and the turmoil he is feeling. Upon
talking to him at the hospital I told him that he simply needed to
ask Jesus into his heart and that would end his spiritual anguish,
to which he replied that he knows that this is why he is so troubled
right now. By getting saved he knows he could no longer be a part
of this false church and what they teach, and would have to face not
only losing his wife and children, but also his parents and siblings
and the community that he has grown up with and around. Mormon
families are very close and the fear of this to him, is just as
great or greater than the fear of God and eternal separation
from Him. I ask you to pray for this man to overcome this obstacle
and give his life to Christ and pray for us as this is something we
continually face as we witness to the Mormon people.
We have had a wonderful older lady visiting our services on Sunday and Wednesday nights for the last two months. She has to work on Sunday mornings but has been so faithful to our other services. Her father was a pastor when she was a child, but was killed in a car accident when she was a teenager. She was devastated and turned away from God and church. Another lady in church invited her to services and praise the Lord she was saved the last weekend in October! Sid and Mika are another young couple that have started attending services recently. Sid got saved at the first of the summer in a church in a town up the road. Unable to afford the gas to travel there every Sunday they have started visiting our church. Mika was raised as a devout Mormon and is struggling with the issue of salvation being a free gift of grace. She knows her Bible well but many of the verse she uses to contradict salvation are used out of context. I have shown her how to read the verses before and the verses after the verse she is reading and she is shocked to see that the meaning totally changes from what she had been taught. Her husband is earnestly praying for her to get saved and receive the free gift of mercy and grace that he has received. Pray for my wife and I as we continue to show her the truth out of the Bible. Please pray with us that as the weather gets colder that we will continue to be able to get into homes to witness and spread the gospel. Also please pray for more visitors and workers, we are in need of Sunday School teachers and a teen leader.
We thank God for all the prayers and support you give us.
