June, 2007 Summer is in full swing here and we have just passed the longest day of the year. We had a nice warm spring with lots of rain, which has made everything beautiful and green. Gardens are an important part of life for the Belarusian. After the formal classes were finished for the spring semester of ESL (English as a Second Language) we settled into a less active routine. We still have regular "get togethers" where some of the students can practice their English. We are currently using the government approved book of Ephesians in order for them to better understand how to live a more fulfilled life. They often have questions of comprehension, which allow us to search more for greater insight. In the fall we will start a new semester of ESL. This will give us more opportunities to develop long lasting relationships that we hope will be of eternal value. It is our goal to build friendships here that will continue even after we are gone. Once a week I have coffee and conversation with one of the older ESL students. His background is in the area of science. Most of his life he has known nothing but the teachings of humanism and evolution but is curious about our life and what we believe. I have also been discipling a young couple who have recently discovered "New Life" and want to learn more. These are the kinds of relationships that we want to develop as we continue to serve here. Praise the Lord we were able to find a good van!!! Thank you, to everyone that gave so that we could purchase it. It is a 1997 Volkswagen Transporter Van that holds nine passengers comfortably. This is a very common van here so maintenance and parts are cheap. It is also a diesel. That means 30mpg average with the cheapest fuel available at about $2.70 a gallon ($.72/litre). Last Sunday we had it full as we went to church! Janet, Danny and I are continuing our education in the Russian language. Our teacher comes to our house twice a week for classes. Danny has also made some friends that live close by and he is learning to interact well with them. Christy and Annie both listen to Mom and Dad as we learn new words and to the people that come to visit us on a regular basis. The Lord has been good to us in providing us with a landlord and family that don’t speak English but are very friendly. This gives us plenty of time to practice our Russian conversation skills. We prayed the whole year we were in the States that God would provide the right place for us to live. We are now realizing how He has answered that prayer, above and beyond what we asked. We want to thank you for your prayers for us over the past few months. We have felt God’s presences and have seen Him work as we have settled back into life in our place of service. And thank you for your financial support. We have been able to purchase the things that we have needed. Please continue to uphold our English study and the discipleship opportunities. We need His wisdom as we live and work here in Belarus.
