ALERT

On Wednesday, September 24, Dr. Midgett received a call from Pastor  Daniel Kukkamalla stating that one of his pastors and a church member from the village of Kandhamal in the state of Orissa were beaten to death by a Hindu mob as they were walking through the village.

The pastor is survived by a wife, a son, and a daughter . As of April 15, 2009 the pastor’s widow and her small children tried to returned to her parents house, but was turned away because she was a Christian. She is now living with some of the members of the church. The widow of the church member has returned to her home.

We at GFBM are currently trying to raise funds in order to help these widows and their children.

If you would like to make a donation to help with this great need please remit it to:

ALERT

Updated 1/31/2010

I arrived in Cap Haitien at 9:10AM on Friday, January 22. Bro. Louis met me at the airport at about 10:30AM. There is minimal damage in Cap Haitien, but the infrastructure was completely down with no electricity or running water. There were two to three times more people there than normal because of the refugees running from Port Au Prince and the cities on the southern end of the island, with many more arriving by busses hourly. This is causing an enormous strain on food, water (We had a hand pumped well where I was and access to bottled water.), and all of the other necessities of life which are scarce under normal conditions. Some of these people are living with friends, family, or relatives, but most are just sleeping in the streets.

We were not be able to travel far because many of the roads were damaged and are impassable, especially in the mountainous areas. In Cap Haitien the hospitals are taking only those with life threatening injuries and most of them are being transported from Port Au Prince by UN forces or US military. All of the hospital beds are full and they are using other facilities, such as school or church auditoriums, to house the patients. The entire country is on heightened security with UN Troops and policemen armed with shotguns everywhere. Every once in a while you could feel a small tremor and everyone would just stop and look at one another and then go on about their business after it passes.

The banks were closed for the first couple of days I was there and when they reopened the lines were two to three blocks long. They were imposing a thirty day wait to cash a check and there was no exchanging money except on the black market. Gas had gone from $5.00 per gallon to over $20.00 per gallon and diesel fuel was $10.00 to $15.00 per gallon, if you could find it. Bread increased in price three times in four days.

The greatest problem that Bro. Louis faces is taking care of his church members. Many, who were barely surviving before the quake, now do not have the basic necessities such as food and water because they cannot afford it any longer. The church is doing what it can to help, but they are running out of resources quickly. PLEASE PRAY AND GIVE TOWARD THIS GREAT NEED. There is not a single church family that did not lose a loved-one in the earthquake. The people are grieving and are wondering how they are going to feed their families and themselves.

I am so glad God let me go there and encourage Bro. Ludovic. He and his church certainly needed it.

If you would like to contribute to help Bro. Louis and his church please send your payment to:

Mark it for the “Haiti Relief Fund”. One-hundred percent of the offerings given will go directly to Eglise Baptiste de la Grace, Cap Haitien, Haiti.

Thank you again for your love, prayers, and gifts. I was fine because of your prayers and God’s grace.
